Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know Before You Ride

Have questions about renting electric bikes and scooters or exploring Oceanside with Ride Oside? Find answers to the most common questions below to make your adventure as smooth and fun as possible.

  • Do I need a reservation?

While walk-ins are welcome based on availability, we recommend reserving ahead of time to guarantee your preferred ride and time slot—especially on weekends and during peak seasons.

  • Are there age or license requirements?

Riders must be at least 15 years old, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A valid ID is required to rent. A learner’s permit, driver’s license, state ID, or passport are all acceptable forms of ID for renting with Ride Oside.

  • What’s included with my rental?

All rentals include a helmet, lock, and a brief orientation to ensure you're ready to ride safely and comfortably.

  • Is there a weight limit?

Yes. Single riders have a weight limit of 250 lbs, and tandem riders have a combined maximum of 350 lbs.

  • Do I need experience to ride?

No experience necessary! Our e-bikes and scooters are easy to ride, and your Ride Oside representative will ensure you’re 100% comfortable before your adventure begins.

  • How far can the rides go?

Our electric rides are designed to travel 50–60 miles per charge, depending on rider weight, speed, terrain, and riding style—plenty of range for a day of exploring.

  • Do I have to wear a helmet?

We provide helmets and locks at no extra cost. Helmets are required for riders 17 and younger but optional for adults.

  • Where can I ride?

You can ride anywhere a bicycle can, except on sidewalks, up and down Oceanside ramps, and on the Pier. If you find yourself in a lane with a speed limit over 30 mph, you must be in a Class II bike lane.

  • Is there a security deposit?

Yes. Each rider will have a $300 security deposit authorization placed on their credit card. This isn’t a charge—it’s just a hold until you return your ride safely and undamaged.

  • What’s your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations to receive a refund. Same-day bookings are non-refundable. If you show up under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will not be permitted to ride, and you will be charged the full rental price. No refunds.

  • What should I wear?

Dress as you would for a casual bike ride. Shoes are required; closed-toe shoes are recommended but not mandatory. If it’s chilly, dress in warm layers.

  • What happens if I damage the unit?

You’re responsible for any damages while the ride is in your possession. Before you start, you’ll inspect the unit with your Ride Oside representative and note any pre-existing damage. You can view our damage price list [here].

  • Do I have to fill out a waiver?

Yes. Each rider must complete and submit two waivers before departure. You can view and fill out the waivers [here].

  • Do I need a driver’s license?

A learner’s permit, driver’s license, state ID, or passport are all acceptable forms of ID for renting with Ride Oside.
